Your category ‘B’ (Car) driving licence only covers you to drive a vehicle up to 3,500kg & trailer up to 750kg.

If you want to tow a trailer with a gross vehicle weight of more than 750kg, you are required by law to hold a full ‘BE’ licence.

This licence allows you to tow trailers, horse boxes, cow boxes, caravans, boats etc.

Alert School Of Motoring supply a Jeep and box trailer which is available for tuition and your driving test. In recent months the law is really being enforced.

In fact the Gardai are now actively pursuing vehicles towing trailers on the road and checking that the driver is in possession of the correct licence – without this correct licence (category BE), you may not be insured and could be prosecuted.

Trailer Lessons are charged at €70 per hour. The Hire of a Jeep and Trailer for your Driving Test costs €200.
